Sarah Rafferty was born on 6th December 1972 in New Canaan, Connecticut, USA, to Mimi Rafferty and Michael G. Rafferty Jr, and is one of four siblings, all girls. Her parents, the chairwoman of an English department and a man who carved out careers in both finance and oil painting are the two people Sarah gives credit to for her becoming interested in the arts.
Sarah attended Hamilton College and studied both English and Theatre. She also went to Oxford in England during her junior year where she also studied theatre. Following graduation from Hamilton Sarah went on to Yale School of Drama from where she received her Master of Fine Arts degree. It is at Yale where Sarah met her husband, Aleksanteri Olli-Pekka ‘Santtu’ Seppala and they were married on 23rd June 2001. They have two daughters together, Oona, who was born in 2007 and Iris who was born in 2011.
Sarah has been good friends with her co-star, Gabriel Macht (who plays Harvey on Suits) for over 20 years and they even lived together while they filmed the first season in Toronto.
Before Suits, Sarah had a number of theatre credits including starring opposite Kathleen Turner in The Third Story. She also has had a number of different parts on TV in series such as CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, Six Feet Under, The Practice, Tremors, Charmed, Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Numb3rs.
However, it is as Harvey Specter’s powerful and feisty personal assistant Donna Paulsen where Sarah has blossomed.
